River Hydraulics and Sediment Transport Analysis
The River Hydrauilcs and Sediment Transport Analysis tool was designed to extract and analyze a stream cross-section’s hydraulic properties and sediment transport. It extracts a valley-scale cross-section using a 30-meter DEM which can then be supplemented by additional channel-scale survey data provided by the user.
Once extracted, the cross-section’s hydraulic properties (hydraulic radius, area, normal depth, sediment transport, etc.) can be summarized for a single flow event or combined with data from a stream monitoring site. This helps provide insight into the variability of both stream flow and sediment transport.
The River Hydrauilcs and Sediment Transport Analysis tool generates valley-scale channel cross-sections which are available for download and use in further analyses. When combined with a stream discharge record it creates rating curves for depth, area, hydraulic radius, and sediment transport in addition to a sediment effectiveness curve which can be used to find the ‘effective discharge’ (peak of the curve).
Additionally, the cross-section can modified to analyze different channel rehabilitation configurations the Hydraulics Toll can simulate the resulting effect on hydraulic and sediment conditions.
