Graywater

As water supply becomes more limited throughout the world, there is a growing interest for innovative approaches to water resources sustainability. One approach that is gaining popularity is use of graywater to meet nonpotable demands, such as irrigation and toilet flushing. While some states have begun to legalize and regulate the practice of graywater reuse for residential landscape, little guidance based on scientific data is available on use of graywater for irrigation or toilet flushing. At the CSU Urban Water Center, we have been conducting research to address impacts of graywater reuse for irrigation on soil and plant health, feasibility of graywater reuse for toilet flushing and evaluating the current state of graywater regulations.
