July 20, 2021: Research Contributions to Science & Practice


Welcome & Housekeeping: 8:45am – 9:00am (MT)

Project Reports: 9:00am – 3:00pm (MT)

Each project will have 10-mins to discuss major research findings. Presentations should specifically address how the research contributes to advancing the science and practice of managing sustainable urban water systems. Discuss how your work may potentially be useful to stakeholders and how your work might influence practice.

Thrust A: 9:00am -10:45am

  • A1-1 (Arabi): Quantify vulnerability, resilience and adaptability
  • A2-1 (Bou-Zeid): Land-atmosphere-hydrosphere interactions
  • A2-2 (Georgescu) Land-atmosphere-hydrosphere – projecting future change

  • A2-4 (Meggers): Assessment and design of innovative building systems and urban infrastructure

Envisioning Career Path Opportunities: 9:00am – 10:00am (MT)

Student-focused panel discussion on post-graduation career paths and opportunities. Panelists representing utility, academic, non-profit and private sectors will discuss their career paths and factors that influenced their trajectories.  Discussions will include question and answer sessions for the students to interact with the panelists:

  • Utility – Marc Cammarata (Philadelphia Water Dept.)
  • Academia – Jessica Bolson (FIU), Sybil Sharvelle (CSU), Alex Maas (UI)
  • Private Sector – Glen Daigger (One Water Solutions/UM)
  • Non-profit – Howard Neukrug (U-Penn Water Center, formerly US Water Alliance and Philadelphia Water Dept.), William Cooper (National Science Foundation)
