UWIN INTEGRATION TASK FORCE

Synthesis Papers

Objective

Write cross-cutting academic papers that synthesizes proposed solutions to urban water issues, as identified by each project. Participating investigators who contribute to the papers (e.g. data) will be included as co-authors.

Products

Academic synthesis papers, defined as across cities AND projects/disciplines, for publication in a high-level journal(s):

Paper 1: Baseline/current conditions: What is the current state of urban water systems (pressures, challenges) and what does this mean for changing water management practice?

Paper 2: Future conditions: Based on the status of current systems, what changes are recommended and how do these urban water systems need to evolve to reach these recommended targets?

Other papers/suggestions: If you suggest an idea you are asked to lead that piece. The overarching goal, however, remains two papers integrating all findings across cities/projects.  Please add suggestions to the UWIN Task Force Enrollment & Contributions document.

Baseline/Current Conditions Synthesis Paper

Primary Contacts: Liz Mack (emack@msu.edu) and Matei Georgescu (Matei.Georgescu@asu.edu

Goals and Objectives

The synthesis paper team will develop a study that assesses baseline and current  conditions. We will produce a list of data needs and associated spatial resolutions for data needs when paper launches. We plan to integrate with the indicators effort and will fit the described objectives of the project of characte)izing baseline and future conditions in project study areas. We plan to address the following question:

What is the current state of urban water systems (pressures, challenges) and what does this mean for changing water management practice?

Current Activities

First this working group will coordinate and assemble data to characterize the baseline conditions for each project’s UWIN research area.  Task force participants will then conduct relevant analyses of synthesized data .  Finally the task force will use the data analysis and synthesis to formulate the paper.

Study locations

The study locations will be identified once data contributions are made.

Milestones and Timeline

  • Data contributions for baseline conditions by end of February (2019)
  • Analysis completed by end of June (2019)
  • Draft of paper completed by UWIN meeting (August 2019)

Participants

The Task Force will be responsible for communications and initial calls for data. Paper lead (Mack & Georgescu) will be responsible for meeting timeline listed above. The following participants have indicated interest in collaborating:
