Project C3-1
Project Team: Sharon Harlan, PI – Northeastern University
Elizabeth Mack – Michigan State University
Project Overview
Social equity and environmental justice are essential qualities of sustainable solutions for urban water systems. The goal of this project is to undertake two new research activities on equity and justice that will amplify these themes in research, education, and engagement across the Urban Water Innovation Network (U-WIN) Sustainability Research Network. This goal will be achieved through widening the channels of communication with and participation of traditionally underrepresented vulnerable groups in U-WIN. The new projects and the formation of a Social Equity/Environmental Justice Team will add dimensionality to U-WIN by eliciting information and perspectives on water issues from marginalized populations that are typically not given the opportunity to participate in decision-making processes regarding water pricing and regulations.
